Anxiety

Support for anxiety that's taking up more space than it should

Anxiety can show up in many forms โ€” constant worry, panic, health fears, phobias, or intrusive thoughts and compulsions. It can feel like your mind is working against you, or that the world has become smaller as you avoid the things that trigger it.

CBT has a strong evidence base for anxiety conditions, and I work with adults experiencing generalised anxiety, social anxiety, health anxiety, panic disorder, phobias, and OCD.

What this might look like for you

Anxiety takes many forms

๐ŸŒฟ

Generalised anxiety

Excessive, hard-to-control worry that spreads across many areas of life โ€” work, health, relationships, the future.

๐Ÿ‘ฅ

Social anxiety

Intense self-consciousness and fear of judgement in social or performance situations, sometimes leading to avoidance.

๐Ÿฉบ

Health anxiety

Persistent worry about illness, frequent checking of the body, or seeking reassurance that doesn't quite settle the fear.

๐Ÿ’จ

Panic disorder

Sudden, intense episodes of fear accompanied by physical symptoms like a racing heart, breathlessness, or dizziness.

๐Ÿšช

Phobias

A strong, specific fear of an object, animal, or situation that leads to avoidance and disruption to daily life.

๐Ÿ”

OCD

Intrusive, unwanted thoughts, and compulsions or rituals used to try to reduce the distress they cause.

Is this normal?

When it's worth reaching out

Some anxiety is a normal, even useful, part of life. It's worth seeking support when the worry, fear, or compulsions feel hard to control, are present most days, or are affecting your sleep, concentration, work, or relationships โ€” or when you notice yourself avoiding more and more situations to manage the anxiety.

You don't need to have reached a crisis point to start therapy. Early support often makes the work more straightforward.

How CBT helps

Understanding what keeps anxiety going

CBT works by identifying the patterns of thinking and behaviour โ€” including avoidance, checking, and reassurance-seeking โ€” that unintentionally keep anxiety going. We work together to challenge unhelpful thoughts and, where relevant, gradually and safely face feared situations at a pace that feels manageable.

This is practical, structured work, and you're an active part of the process throughout.

We start with a free 15-minute consultation, followed by an assessment session to understand what you're experiencing and agree a plan, then regular 50-minute CBT sessions. See the full process โ†’

Frequently asked questions

You might be wondering

How do I know if my worry is "normal" or something to get help with?

Some worry is a normal part of life. It's worth seeking support when the worry feels excessive or hard to control, is present most days, or is affecting your sleep, concentration, relationships, or ability to do things you'd otherwise want to do.

Is CBT effective for panic attacks?

Yes. CBT has a strong evidence base for panic disorder. We work on understanding what maintains panic attacks, reducing the fear of the physical sensations themselves, and building confidence in situations you may have started avoiding.

I've had health anxiety for years โ€” is it too late to change?

No. How long a difficulty has been present doesn't determine whether CBT can help. We focus on the patterns keeping the anxiety going now, including checking and reassurance-seeking, and build a different way of responding.

Will I have to face my fears straight away?

No. Any work involving facing feared situations is planned together, built up gradually, and only ever at a pace that feels manageable to you. Nothing is sprung on you.

Can OCD be treated without medication?

CBT, including exposure and response prevention approaches, is a recommended evidence-based treatment for OCD and can be used with or without medication. What's right for you is something we can discuss together.

Do I need a referral to start?

No referral is needed. You can get in touch directly, and we'll start with a free 15-minute consultation to talk through what you're experiencing.
